Mark started his professional career as an engineer doing CAD/CAM R&D at Hughes Aircraft Company’s Surveillance & Sensor Systems Division. Thirteen years later he left his role as Scientist/Engineer leading the Hughes Information Technology Systems/Raytheon Information Security function. He spent one year as an IT Security Architect at Bank One and led the bankone.com authentication cryptography implementation, multi-factor authentication for remote access, and user entitlements strategy development. After ten years leading many parts of the Information Risk Management program at Nationwide, Mark came to USAA where he serves as the Executive Director of Information Security Operations. He holds the Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP), and Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) professional designations and earned a B.S. in design engineering from Brigham Young University, and an M.S. in engineering management from Portland State University. Mark and his wife Diana have four children.
